Groups and Classes

Are you ready to learn what it really means to be a part of the Sherwood Oaks family?  As great as Sunday mornings are, we know that the only way to really connect is to find a smaller group that you can grow with. We encourage everyone to be involved in a Growth Group on a regular basis.

Bicycling Group

Varies -

The Bicycling Group rides together in organized cycling events and scheduled and impromptu group rides with 2, 5, or 20 members. Activities include road and mountain bike excursions, repair clinics, and good clean fun. It's a great opportunity for fun and fellowship. Note, the group is for adult cyclists of any skill level although each rider is responsible for knowing and understanding their personal cycling limitations. Check the Group calendar for special events, organized rides, and other group related activities. Cyclists must provide their own bicycle and equipment. All members are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet while participating in group rides and organized events. "Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full'." Luke 14:23 Contact John for more information.

CC Men's Discipleship Revolution (Winter 2016)

Wednesday - Evening

Walking as Jesus Walked - Is it even possible to walk as Jesus walked? Well, there's only one way to find out! Follow along and study the very model of how to live life - the way Jesus lived - and maybe, just maybe, you'll start feeling the sand beneath your feet. More than merely highlighting various aspects of Jesus' life, we will examine the broad scope of who He is, helping us understand how the life of Christ should transcend our busy, 21st century lifestyles. Open to any man at any stage of their life. This study will be led by Tom Ellsworth & John Robertson. Class begins January 6th at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Join CC Discipleship Revolution.

CC When Helping Hurts

Wednesday - Evening

In 2016 Sherwood Oaks is launching a new community outreach to at-risk and underserved children and families. To support this plan, we are studying the video/book series When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. We all want to help our community fight poverty, but often we don't know where to start or what to do that will really help. This study will explore the root causes of poverty - broken relationships between God, self, others, and the natural world which spawn poverty of spirit and deep despair. We will learn how to find and encourage values in each person as a reflection of God's character and to exercise the call to be fishers of men - teaching them to fish. As we learn together, our prayer will be to make a positive difference in the lives of those who have lost hope in themselves; to reflect Gods love and grace to children and families who He loves. The class will watch a 10-15 minute teaching video and discuss its content. Reading the book is optional - and very helpful. This is a 6 week class taught by Brad Pontius. Friday AM Love Out Loud Bible Study

Friday - Morning

Love Out Loud takes a no frills approach, keeping things simple. The mission is to sync Bible study and service. Bring your own coffee and muffin if you like, or not! Join us for conversation, study, service and to just get real. This is a place for any woman, single, married, kids, no kids, older, younger. Come take this journey with us! We look forward to meeting you. Walking as Jesus Walked by Dan Spader Jesus must be our model for ministry. Sounds obvious, right? Or is it? Jesus, in all His humanity (and all His divinity) shows us the best possible way to live. Following Jesus' example, His disciples then changed the course of history. How then can we follow Jesus\' example? We must study His life. How did Jesus pray? In what types of relationships did He invest? Where were His priorities? Can my priorities be His priorities? Can I walk like He walked? What we do with Jesus MATTERS. Join us for this ten-week class! Class begins January 15.
