HoosiersCare is a ministry designed to offer that good old Hoosier Hospitality to folks traveling to Bloomington who need temporary housing while being treated at the IU Health Proton Therapy Center.. Besides offering friendship, a listening ear, a caring heart and a helping hand, we offer hope. This is the kind of hope that has truth and honesty behind it. Most of our guests coming to Bloomington have cancer; for some, proton treatment is the last stop on their journey.
HoosiersCare was started in 2006, when Sherwood Oaks member Phil Thompson was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment at the IU Health Proton Therapy Center. While he was able to recieve treatment and go home, he met several patients who were in town for treatment and living out of hotel rooms. He wanted to do something to help, and HoosiersCare was born!
HoosiersCare is a ministry that is all about saying Yes2Love to people going through a tough time. To date, over 100 families from many countries and states have been housed through HoosiersCare. Read more about HoosiersCare here.
