Why Membership?
Committing to a local church matters. It means you are saying you belong somewhere and that you are part of a body of believers that are united for a common purpose. At Sherwood Oaks we call this commitment membership. Make no doubt about it, membership does matter – to you and to us!
Becoming a member at Sherwood Oaks is more than just signing up to give regularly or getting onto a mailing list. New members often say that although they had been part of the Sherwood Oaks family for some time, after placing their membership, they felt like they truly belonged.
Membership does have a price. You’ll be expected to contribute your time, talent and treasure with your Sherwood Oaks family and to pray for the church and its leaders regularly. You’ll also seek to serve more than to be served and to value, respect and honor everyone in the church family. Sharing our church’s vision is what membership is all about!
How do I become a member of SOCC?
During the decision song at the end of any service in the Worship Center, you can make your way to the front of the room. The minister will introduce you to the congregation and ask you to repeat our statement of faith (“I believe with all my heart that Jesus is the Christ, my Lord and my Savior”). After placing membership, a member of our staff will be in touch with you to help you find ways to become involved in the church.
If you are uncomfortable with this public decision process, it can be arranged privately. Please for more information about private membership.
To learn more about what membership means and looks like at Sherwood Oaks, plan to attend our Membership Breakfast on September 24 at 8:30am. Sign up now!
