Family Commitment Recap

Oct 29, 2014

On October 19, we celebrated families with new little ones in our main services and with a special brunch during the 11:00am hour. As a congregation, we promised to encourage, pray for and lead these parents as they do their best to raise their children.

That morning, Tom also spoke of the importance of parenting and giving your children a home life that is different. He said,

Here is the bottom line: Do your best to make growing up for your children as positive and pleasant as it can be. Shelter them a bit - there will be plenty of time for reality. Protect them a lot - they will know much pain in their lifetimes. Teach them right from wrong – they need to know the truth. Encourage them always - they will find discouragement lurking around every corner of the world in which they live. Love them deeply - for no one can care for them more than you do. In the world they will discover hatred, bias, prejudice, dishonesty, disappointment, rejection, frustration, and bitterness. Do your utmost to make your home a haven of happiness where they can retreat from all that is bad to once again discover joy, peace, unconditional love and the presence of the living God.

Most of all, give them Jesus and you will give them everything.

We are humbled and honored that so many families choose to worship and raise their families at Sherwood Oaks. To learn more about our kids programming and parenting resources, go here.
