It’s called March Madness and for good reason – even the most knowledgeable among us can’t predict how the collegiate basketball tournaments will play out. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

I truly enjoy this time of the year when basketball dominates the airwaves. Season records mean little, Cinderella teams become favorites and great talent is celebrated by all. The key to victory, however, is playing as a team. The hotshot player who wants to do it all will be more detrimental than helpful. The teams who rise to the top are those whose players are selfless; who see a good assist as more important than an average shot, who set a pick so their teammate can score and who realize that working together on the court is more important than accumulating personal records.

Watch closely and you will glimpse some valuable life lessons during the month of March. Be someone who is good at assisting those in need. Come alongside others and free them up so they can be successful. Don’t focus on personal glory. Most importantly, be selfless. God seldom uses the hotshot; victory comes to those who play like a team.
