One exhausted holiday shopper quipped, “Many Americans no longer celebrate the arrival of the New Year – they celebrate the survival of the old one.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Here we are at the beginning of a new year. You’ve expended all of your energy, the excitement of the holiday season has evaporated and you’re just glad you survived for another year. Here’s the problem; with the distractions of the season we can easy lose our focus on what really matters and when we lose our focus we also lose our joy. In this first week of 2016 let’s do a little refocusing. I’m not talking about a New Year’s resolution – that something that goes in one year and out the other. I’m talking about a fresh perspective on life. This year view each day as a new start, a new opportunity, a new challenge. If you wake up in the morning, it’s already a great day. If you wake up feeling good, that’s a terrific bonus. So put on a smile and then share that smile with others. And remember what the Psalmist wrote, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.”
