Why do we hear so much about stewardship and money?
Although money is not the only thing we steward, the Bible spends a lot of time on money and possessions. Jesus knew that money is so powerful that if we don’t master it, it will master us! Today’s society tells us that all we need to be happy is more money and more stuff, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth! We are being pulled between two very different “masters”— what the world says and what God desires for us. Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24)
What do my tithes and offerings support?
Your tithes (which means one-tenth) and offerings support the ministries and missions of Sherwood Oaks in many different ways. As a church body, we support numerous full-time missionaries both within the borders of the US and around the world. Your tithes and offerings do more than just keep the lights on and the carpets clean; they allow SOCC to embrace the i2U vision and reach out both to the people next door and to communities and villages the world over.
Tithes and offerings also help supplement and support the many ministries of Sherwood Oaks. Without the loving generosity of the body of believers that call Sherwood Oaks home, we would be unable to do many of the great works God has laid before us to accomplish.
