“Love is patient, love is kind.” I’m sure you are familiar with these words from 1 Corinthians 13:4. They are often quoted at weddings, in movies, and written on seasonal greeting cards. But how often do we stop and really think about this passage?
The passage goes on to say “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” A true love will pick you up when you are at your deepest, darkest moment, and not only bring you up out of it, but make sure that you stay raised. A true love is going to work every day to get you closer to heaven. Some of us are lucky enough to have a person here on Earth that fills that role; but ALL of us have that love in Jesus Christ. True love never gives up, and that true love was showcased when Jesus died on the cross for us.
I challenge you all to love one another just as Jesus loves us. When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22: 37-39). The world would be a much better place with more of this kind of love. “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13). I hope you will join us as we journey through 1 Corinthians at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church this month.
