William Ward wrote, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Summer is the only season that for me has always had two ending dates. There is the official date in September when summer gives way to autumn’s glory but then there is the unofficial date when school begins. This is the time of the year when teachers, professors and students alike return to the classrooms and what’s left of summer takes on a different feel.

Our education is not just an important opportunity; it is a real privilege.  I’ve had some great teachers in my life who didn’t just share their knowledge, but inspired me to dream for the future. Most teachers I know are truly devoted to developing in their students the vision for lifelong learning. It is not an easy job and often goes unappreciated.  So in these last weeks of summer take time to thank a teacher – they spend their energies shaping the lives of others. And if you are a teacher remember these words from the book of Proverbs, “Teach the wise, and they will become even wiser!”
