Comparison Shopping

Dec 13, 2012

Have you ever heard the expression “it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick”? It doesn’t even, matter what you are comparing to the sharp stick. Pretty much anything is better than that! We are really into comparisons. Whatever you are buying, you want to compare the product and the price. Who hasn’t stood in front t of the big screen TV’s and compared the pictures and the price? We want to make good choices.

History is full of people who’ve made bad choices. The classic biblical example of a bad choice is that of Esau the brother Jacob. As the older twin, he was the heir but when he came home from the fields, so very hungry, he traded his right of inheritance for a bowl of stew his brother had made.  He satisfied his immediate desire at the expense of all that would have been his.

Watch out for the ‘Esau’ syndrome. He traded away God’s lifelong gift to satisfy a short term appetite. Esau regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing but it was too late.  Today, do a little comparison shopping.  Before you choose to do something that might endanger your inheritance of eternal life, weigh it against what you have to loose.
