February 15 Minute Message

The other day I nicked my face shaving and within seconds, the bleeding stopped.  I was once again reminded of the marvels in our circulatory system.  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

A blood clot in itself isn’t the amazing part for me; it’s how the clotting system is regulated.  Just imagine if our blood clotted randomly in places like our brain or lungs – strokes and heart attacks would take us before we really got a chance to live.  Or what if it took an hour for our blood to clot at the site of a wound – we’d bleed out.  And if the clot isn’t confined to the size of the cut, why, our entire circulatory system would begin to solidify.

You see, for the clotting system to work, clusters of proteins have to be inserted at the scene of the physical wound at the very same time.  What’s more, blood clotting involves a highly designed sequence of ten steps involving twenty different molecular components all of which are vital to make the clot.  Take away one component and the whole system shuts down.  Simply amazing!

Even something so simple as a tiny blood clot points to the design and grace of God
