God is full of Surprises

God is full of surprises…and often His plans bring unexpected things in life. We found ourselves in the midst of the unexpected at Christmas time in 1988. But I’m getting ahead of the story….

We lived in Madison, Wisconsin while Tobin finished his last year of physical therapy school. Annie, Ben and Elly were in a great elementary school a block from our house. I worked at the State Bar of Wisconsin in the continuing education department, and was looking forward to an exciting promotion that would enable me to go to grad school while I worked. Tobin would graduate in the spring and life was going according to our plans.

And then…we discovered God’s plans were different from ours. I passed up that great promotion and turned in my resignation. Tobin still finished PT school in the spring….And that Christmas between semesters, we were surprised by Kate. She was born on December 28th.

Just like all of God’s plans and surprises, this one was perfect. It did change the trajectory of our lives, but we now see the many blessings that God has provided because we followed Him.

Our creative God planned a unique path for us, and he has filled our life with surprises! He has a creative plan that is unique just for you, as well! His ways are always perfect and His surprises are always filled with blessing---But, if you stopped to think about it, could we expect anything less from the One who designs every snowflake differently and who makes every fingerprint unique? God loves to surprise us!

Our cup overflows with joy and thanksgiving because we count on the Lord of Surprises…Emmanuel…with us!
