It’s a simple, one-sentence prayer but it holds great promise, “Lord, give me the determination and tenacity of a weed.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Do the difficult moments in life make you feel defeated or determined? Traditionally, when a trainer concluded his boxer was too bloodied and battered to continue the match, he would throw his towel in the middle of the ring to stop the fight and signal defeat. Life can beat us up to a point that we are ready to throw in the towel, but don’t let life’s obstacles keep you from victory. I remember several years ago a small bulge appeared in the church parking lot. Over the summer it grew, and finally the surface cracked at the peak and the bloom of a dandelion emerged from beneath 4 inches of asphalt.

That’s tenacious determination! The New Testament states, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for…we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” In other words, do your best; don’t throw in the towel. If a dandelion can push up through a parking lot, you, too, can be victorious. “Lord, give us the determination and tenacity of a weed!”
