Jesus Saves

Apr 16, 2014

Jesus Saves:  two simple yet profound words which hold the promise for the future and power for the present. Their significance reaches forward into eternity and backward into history. From the moment sin expelled Adam from his garden paradise, God promised his people a deliverer who will rescue them from sin and destruction and establish them as children of the King.

The promise continued, despite

Adam’s rebellion
Cain’s murderous heart
Noah’s drunkenness
Abraham’s deceit
Moses’ anger
Samson’s foolishness
David’s adultery
Solomon’s idolatry
Judas’ betrayal
Peter’s denial
Pilate’s condemnation
Saul’s persecution
And the constant unfaithfulness of the people he calls his own (like you and me)

God did not waver from his promise to send a Savior. Despite the power of sin and the weakness of the human heart, He remembered His promise. Greed, anger, lust, pride, envy, murder, sloth, avarice, gluttony lived on in the human heart. Only One could save God's people from themselves:  Jesus

Jesus Saves

He did then and he does today. In a divine exchange, Christ the perfect sacrifice, atoned for our sins with his life. We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ - once for all.

Thank you Lord for gift of your Son who gave his life – once and for all – so that we might be freed from chains of darkness and walk in the very light of Life. As we share in this remembrance of your body broken and spilled for us – remind us of the covenant of love that now exists between God and man through Jesus Christ. Amen.
