Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Common sense is like gold – it’s always valuable, it’s always desirable, and always rare.  Some things we talk about just don’t make sense.  For instance:

  • How long did the Hundred Years War last?  116 years
  • Which country makes Panama hats?  Ecuador
  • From what animal do we get catgut?  Sheep
  • What is used in a camel’s hair brush?  Squirrel fur
  • The Canary Islands in the Pacific are named after what animal?   Dogs
  • What was the first name of King George VI?  Albert
  • What color is a purple finch?  Crimson
  • Where do Chinese gooseberries come from?  New Zealand

See what I mean?  Is it any wonder that life gets so confusing?  “Turn your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding,” so says the book of Proverbs, God’s volume of wisdom and insight.  Following his wise advice will take a lot of the confusion out of life.  Want to be a genius?  Put on your work clothes and start with some godly common sense.
