March 23 Minute Message

Discouragement, like a rodent, will gnaw away at your potential in life if your attitude never gets off the ground. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

The story is told of British aviation pioneer, Frederick Handley Page, who in the early days of flight landed his fabric covered bi-plane in an open field. After resuming his flight, he heard a scratching sound deep in the fuselage. Unfortunately, he had taken on an undesirable passenger while in the field – a rat had made its way into the tail section and was gnawing away at the control linkages. If the rat chewed through, Page would lose all control of the plane. Knowing that rats were low altitude creatures and could not breathe in thinner air, Page gained as much altitude as possible for the duration of his flight. He landed safely and discovered the rodent had been suffocated by the heights.

There are days that gnaw at you like that unwanted passenger on Page’s aircraft. When it comes to our mental and spiritual attitudes, God did not create us to be low altitude creatures. He wants us to soar with the eagles, not chew with the rats. In the tough times, fly high!
