I like this old Chinese proverb: “What is told in the ear of a man is often heard one hundred miles away.”  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Rumors can be dangerous so be cautious what you share as truth.  Remember, a rumor is like a check – never endorse it until you are certain it’s genuine.  Emails are notorious for forwarding false information; one finds its way into my in-box on a regular basis. When it comes to the internet, I read with a skeptical eye.  Just last week there was a fascinating article on a Canadian boy who supposedly discovered a lost Mayan city using satellite images and constellation data.  The unconfirmed story which started in Europe was quickly debunked by scientists.  That’s only one of scores of errant stories out there.

What the jet engine did for air travel, the internet has done for the rumor mill.  Be careful what you believe and even more importantly what you forward or retell.  The current deluge of cyberspace rumors makes Jesus’ words even more relevant, “Let you yes be yes and your no be no.”  Make sure that when you speak, email, text or tweet, people know it’s true.  Let there be no rumors about your integrity!
