In his Gettysburg address, President Lincoln said, “…in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground.  The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or to detract.  The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.”  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

On May 30th, we Americans will pause to remember those who throughout our nation’s history have paid the price of freedom.  Some sacrificed health and others their fortunes; but many made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.  We dare not forget those who have died in our country’s quest for liberty – from the first shots fired in Lexington and Concord to the Americans who have died on the battlegrounds of Iraq and Afghanistan.  Daniel Webster wrote, “God grants liberty only to those who love it and are always ready to guard and defend it.”  Our American freedom and more importantly our spiritual freedom were both purchased at the cost of another’s life – let us give thanks to God for such incredible gifts.
