Just last week one of our granddaughters entered second grade, while another granddaughter and grandson celebrated their first day of kindergarten. I sensed in our daughters the same mix of joy and sadness we felt on their first days of school so many years ago. All young parents struggle with their emotions as they send their sons and daughters off to the classroom for the very first time. As parents we console ourselves with the thought that we are giving our children wings and we are. So encourage them to soar and do their best. Encourage their teachers also. Thank them for their hard work and devotion to educate our youth.
But remember, our children also need landing gear as well as a safe place to land. Give them spiritual truths that will encourage them in their disappointments, anchor them in their stormy moments and humble them in their successes. God gives us wings to soar like the eagle; but he also gives us landing gear to bring us safely home.
