“Every word is a seed.  If you plant crab apples, don’t count on harvesting Golden Delicious.”  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Autumn makes its grand entrance this week and I’ve already bought my first half-bushel bag of fresh, crisp orchard apples.  Golden Delicious and Fuji are two of my favorites, but really any apple is a treat.  And…what we learned growing up is truer than we might think – “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.”  One apple supplies 20% of our daily recommended fiber.  Researchers have discovered that the components in apples may even enhance the body’s ability to protect against colon cancer.  And the University of Massachusetts Lowell suggests that consuming apple juice may protect against cell damage that contributes to age-related memory loss.

When God created the apple, he gave us a delicious, healthy gift.  What apples are to the body, good words are to our character.  Plant crab apples and that’s likely what you will harvest in response.  So, when you speak make sure your words are sweet, helpful and promote good emotional health.  No wonder the book of Proverbs says, “A word rightly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
