From the Diary of Ann Frank come these words of wisdom, “Laziness may appear attractive, but work gives satisfaction.” I like the way the book of Proverbs teaches a similar truth, “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and be wise.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Have you ever taken the time to watch ants at work?  These tiny insects are anything but lazy; their energy seems endless. Dr. M. Scott Peck writes that laziness is a contributing cause of evil, a primary cause of psychological illness, and the main reason that Americans are continuing to fail at human relationships. He notes that relationships require commitment and hard work but the lazier we become as a people, the less energy we are willing to invest in our relationships.   The end result takes its toll in the most important areas of life: marriage, parenting, friendships and more. Each of those relationships requires our time, energy and sacrifice but they are well worth it. Ann Frank was right – hard work does bring satisfaction. Take a lesson from the ant – don’t be lazy in the important matters of life.
