Have you ever gotten so angry that you said or did something you regret? So angry that you destroyed something important like a relationship or a future? Messed up something that you just can’t fix? It happens to all of us because we all make mistakes. Sometimes, in books or films, you can just see it coming with a character you care about and you want to yell out “don’t do it, you’ll ruin your life!” You don’t want them to take that step over the line and speak in order to hurt, have the affair, pick up the gun, or reach out for the bottle or the drug. We seem to be able to see the danger for others but rarely see in our own lives. Or, maybe, we think just once won’t hurt and I won’t get caught anyway.
The problem is we will get caught. It is the design of Satan that we get caught. He lies in wait for us to step over the line and suffer the consequences. Look at Peter the night he betrayed his friend and Lord. He made a mistake that he lived with the rest of his life. Or Annanis and Saphira who told one lie and suffer God’s wrath. And Moses, who spoke the words that kept him out of the Promised Land after he had led the Israelites for 40 years.
Today, ask God to help you control you anger, your tongue and you actions. Ask God’s Holy Spirit to guide you and enable you to be wise and behave well even when you angry with your co-workers, your family, your fellow drivers and even with yourself. Remember James 1:20 …”for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.”
