Matthew 24, 25

The disciples were impressed by the temple in Jerusalem and pointed it out to Jesus but he knew that both the temple and Jerusalem would be destroyed.   This brought more questions from the disciples about Jesus coming back and the end of the age.

As was His custom Jesus answered in his own way and communicated three things; first it was more complicated than they thought, secondly they would not be able to know when he would return or when the end of the age would occur. Finally, they should be more concerned about watching their relationship with God and others than watching for local or global evidences of the end.

The Sheep and the Goats parable teaches us that God is counting on us to meet the physical needs of the hungry, thirsty, homeless, poor, sick and to visit those in prison. We can come up with tons of excuses, rationalizations and justifications but when face to face with Jesus on His throne, He will know how we treated the least of these so let us not be the goat. This parable seems to indicate salvation through good works but verse 34 indicates that God knew who would be sheep since the creation of the world, or before they could do any good works. There are many scriptures that solidify our belief that salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God, who died on the cross, rose again and waits patiently for his triumphant return. Read the parable again and let's be very sheepish in the meantime.
