The Power to Bless or Destroy

Sep 20, 2013

Have you noticed that we do not experience awe anymore? The word awesome’ isSharon Phillips so diluted that you probably hear It a hundred times a day.”Awesome” is said for everything from pizza to Halloween decorations. However, the word originally meant something that takes your breath away. Now, it means something you find pleasing.

When you look at Deuteronomy 28, the bible refers to God as awesome. If you find God pleasant or pleasing you do not understand the complexity or power that is God. Yes, He has a loving compassionate side but He spoke the world into existence and can destroy it just as easily. He should inspire fear and trembling and, can I say, AWE?

God simply not our genie in a bottle to pull out when we need a favor, but is the One who has the power to bless or destroy. He enjoys making life good for you (Deuteronomy 28:63) but one needs to understand the awesome power that is God and , hear His word and seek His favor. We can do this by being obedient. His edicts are meant to protect us from the consequences of foolishness, His “awesomeness” against our foolishness. Whose voice should we listen to?
