Wandering in the Wilderness

Deuteronomy 1 JeffHuston

It is easy to read about the Israelites and wonder how they could have experienced so many miracles like the 10 Plagues, their release from captivity, their escape from Pharaoh's army through the Red Sea, the Pillar of Fire at night, the Cloud by day, the daily manna from the sky and still not trust God to lead them into the Promised Land.  Here they are on the doorstep and God is telling them to go get it, go take the land promised to them and yet they are afraid to go where God has been leading them for decades.

Before we judge them too harshly I guess we need to realize that we have not only their story but the rest of the Old Testament and all of the New Testament filled with hundreds of miracles even greater than what the Israelites lived through as our foundation of faith.  Are we so willing to take the steps of faith into unknown lands such as sharing Jesus with a coworker who is struggling or helping a neighbor who is really needy or volunteering to lead a small group or help in the nursery.

Let's pray that God will reveal to us where our next 'Promised Land' is - a place He has prepared for us in advance to do the things He designed us to do, so He would be glorified through us.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.               Eph 2:10 NKJV
