Your House is on Fire

Dec 27, 2012

How many jobs have you had in your life time? How many cars or houses or family combinations have you had? Life is full of changes. Just when you think there are things that you can absolutely depend on, life shifts. The Baltimore Colts become the Indianapolis Colts, they decide to build an interstate through your property, you lose your job or your spouse is unfaithful. Things change.

The Bible tells us that, unlike man, God does not change or go back on His promises. So why do we spend so much time on things that are here today and gone tomorrow and so little time on the only relationship that will last through eternity? Isn’t that not only impractical but also incredibly foolish? It is like noticing that you need to mop up some spilled milk but neglecting to notice that your house is on fire.

Are you spending enough time on things that have real significance such as your relationship to God, your family, your church and the people around you who are lost? Satan would like nothing better than to enslave you to the trivial so you will be unable to focus on the things that have real importance. A life of peace comes when you put first things first.
