Are you busy?

Feb 1, 2024

We live in an absolute breakneck-paced society. Most of the time when I see someone and ask how they are doing, I get this one word answer: “Busy”.

My name is Quentin and I’m one of the pastors here at Sherwood Oaks.

Hurry and busyness are staples of our identity and behavior in our world. It’s almost as if we wear these terms like badges of honor, somehow trying to keep up with everyone around us as if we’ll be judged for slowing down.

We’ve gone so far as to trade the term “rest” for “laziness”. But what if we recaptured the essence of a slow-paced life?

Jesus says these words in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 11: “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Doesn’t that sound peaceful? “You will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Right now, take a moment, close this social media feed, lock your phone, and be still. Slow down.
