You Will Not Die

You will not die.

What in your life would change you if you knew you would not die?

Memento Mori.

Remember death.

Live like you are dying.

These motos are supposed to motivate us. And yes, I must admit, when I remember that our time on earth is limited, I tend to take a sobering, long look at my life.

But how, on the other hand, does Jesus’s words, you will not die, impact how we live? Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

Interestingly, deep down one of humanity's greatest fears is death. And to think! Jesus silenced our greatest fear when He said that those who believe in Him will never die.

So, back to the question at hand: Do you believe this? Do you believe that Jesus conquered death? Do you believe that Jesus is who He said He was? The resurrection and the life? Then, what’s there to fear? Jesus walked through death and showed us that in Him to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8).

Living like we’re dying might give us pause, but knowing we will never die means we have nothing to fear. And that changes everything! We can walk fearlessly with God through this life and into the next. Without fear of death we can walk with God like Enoch, like Adam and Eve in the garden, like the disciples along the dusty road. We walk with Him on earth until He walks us into eternity.
