The Career Transition Ministry
The Career Transition Ministry (CTM) was established to support and assist individuals at SOCC who have become unemployed, are seeking employment for the first time, or who are returning to the job market after a significant absence.
Responsibilities:
CTM provides assistance in career decisions and the job searching process on an individual basis, working with and coaching participants in a practical and spiritual setting. This includes providing advice and counsel, but also partnering as a source of comfort and understanding.
CTM recruits and trains advisors to provide effective assistance to program participants. We attempt to ensure that the number, diversity, and skill set of the advisors is fully adequate to meet current and future needs of the program participants.
CTM meets as a group every 4-6 weeks, featuring informational presentations for assisting participants in the job search and career development process. These presentations might be on topics such as interviewing skills, networking, resume writing, stress management, resource utilization, research skills, or techniques in marketing yourself to potential employers. The main focus, however, is on one-to-one meetings arranged between each counselor and applicant as needed.
Services also include collection and dissemination of information on known job opportunities, providing a list of good references for job seekers, forming a network of contacts who will review applicants' profiles to provide potential referrals or networking support. Most importantly, we exist to reach out to the job seekers among our congregation with practical encouragement and a boost to their spiritual focus.
