Singin' In the Rain is one of my favorite songs. I picture Gene Kelly dancing and splashing through puddles in the 1952 musical. And, I laugh as I remember my son, at age 11, recreating the song and dance in a special display when we were visiting the children's museum. I'm Claudia Mitchell with a minute message from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Music has unbelievable power. Research shows a melody can lower blood pressure, improve sleep and even reduce the need for anesthetic during surgery. Companies hire psychologists that select music to encourage shoppers to spend money. Music stirs us. The National Anthem can bring tears. A Dixieland tune causes us to tap our feet.

In chapter three of his book, the prophet Zepheniah said God sings. He wrote, "He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing."

Is it raining today? No matter what storms we may have to face, we can open our umbrellas, singing and dancing at the rain, because as we sing, the creator of the universe is singing over us.
