Student Ministry Volunteer Spotlight!

Jun 23, 2016Elizabeth Moore

Let's meet Anna McCoy! Anna volunteers with our 6-8 grade students in the middle jr. high ministry.

How did you get involved with the middle Jr. High ministry at Sherwood Oaks?
I got involved as soon as I graduated from the Jr. High area. It had a great affect on me so I wanted to make sure it was the same for everyone else.

What is your leadership role at Fuse, Core Groups, etc?
I was a small group leader, camp chaperone, occasionally led lessons.

How would someone describe you?
I think people see me as an outgoing individual who is willing to step up and lead.

How would you describe yourself at the age of 14?
I remember being pretty timid and reserved and scared of adults.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I have an extreme fear of sharks and will not go into the ocean...ever.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to be outdoors. Whether it be doing something active or laying in a hammock, I'm all about it.

What has surprised you most about working with 6-8 grade students?
I love to see all their varying personalities. I think middle school is a time when people start to differentiate themselves and be more comfortable in their own skin. Its really fun to see the big transition that happens between 6th and 8th grade.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice I have received is probably to lead by example. I have learned a lot through it.
