When David comes to my mind, I always think back to the story in 2 Samuel 9 about Mephibosheth. David was great friends with Saul’s son, Jonathan, and he wanted to show God’s kindness to the family once he was on the throne. They found Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, who was lame in both feet and was brought to David. David then gave him his family’s belongings and a seat at the king’s table for his entire life. Not because of who Mephibosheth was but because of who his father was. For me, this is a great reminder that it doesn’t matter who we are, but only matters who our father is. Our Heavenly Father has given us a seat at the table for eternity as long as we put our faith in Jesus Christ. When Mephibosheth is sitting at the table, you wouldn’t be able to tell he couldn’t walk. When we are seated at God’s table, our condition is also covered by our position. Jesus covered all of our sins when He took them to the cross.
