Sherwood Kids!

Vision

The Christ-led influencers of this generation will work together to raise the Christ-led influencers of the next generation.

Mission

We are a community of families, volunteers, and staff members whose relationship with Jesus leads kids to experience who God is and how we love Him.

Faith Skills

  • Listen to Jesus
  • See Jesus at work in me and around me
  • Express my love and appreciation for Jesus through my words and actions

Here's how to connect in Sherwood Kids Bloomington!

Sherwood Kids Calendar

During the 9:30 and 11:00 services, we provide age-appropriate environments where kids can grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Kids ages 0-24 months meet in the Nursery area, 2 year olds-kindergarteners meet in the Early Childhood area, and 1st-5th graders meet in the Elementary area. Here's a map of Sherwood Oaks classrooms.

If you’re new to Sherwood Kids, enter the building through Door 4 and go to the welcome desk. The volunteer team there would be happy to help you get connected. If you have any questions before your visit, feel free to email us at kids@socc.org.

This program is for kids ages 3 years - 6th grade. During this time the kids will participate in our kids’ choir and AWANA--a dynamic, gospel-centered program that helps kids develop a biblical worldview. They will deepen their understanding of God and His Word, do various service projects, and prepare for choir performances.

Registration is $35 per child, but is waived if a parent or guardian volunteers on Wednesday evening. (If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at kids@socc.org.)

Nursery | 6:00pm-7:30pm

This year, we are introducing the Nursery-Puggles. The Nursery-Puggles program is designed for newborns through 2 year olds whose parents attend a Wednesday night class. (If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at kids@socc.org.)

Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it."

This ancient verse identifies what current research suggests: caregivers have a significant and lasting impact on children. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, coach, church volunteer, teacher, etc., you are training up children and would be a perfect addition to this discussion-based class! We will use the TV show The Parent Test as a springboard for conversations around questions like "What are some of the ways to train up children," "How do these ways guide children where they should go," and other questions that the class participants may have.

The class meets once per month and lunch and childcare will be provided. (It is not necessary to attend all the classes, so feel free to attend whenever you can.)

Train Up A Child Registration

Is your child asking about baptism?

Do you wonder if they’re ready?

This four week class for children and their parents facilitates discussions between you and your child and explains why we all need a Savior. At the end of the session, the class takes a field trip to the changing area and baptistry to see where it all happens. This class begins at 11a at our Bloomington campus and starts September 3.

Recommended age: 7-12.

Children should bring their own Bible (NIV or NIrV), a pencil, and a highlighter. Other materials are provided.

Register for Bloomington

If you have any questions about the class, please email us at kids@socc.org.

Family Commitment Sunday is a special time when Sherwood Oaks celebrates the newborn children in our church family by introducing these children to the congregation, praying for the children and their families, and reflecting on the role that the church and the parents/guardians have in raising the church of the next generation. After a brief ceremony on stage, the participating families are invited to the Family Commitment Reception, where they can enjoy light breakfast snacks and take family photos. Extended family and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony and the reception.

We like to personalize this event for families. So, if you have a child born in the last year and would like to participate in this event, please register by Sunday, October 15, 2023.

Annual Fee

Your annual fee is just $75 and includes admission to all Pack activities, such as skiing, tubing, Indian's baseball game, Holiday World trip, rock climbing, camping, and more! To cover additional costs we sell popcorn in September as our main fundraiser.

Other Costs

Uniforms and handbooks are available locally at the Hoosier Trails Council building east of Bloomington on the way to Nashville. Uniform requirements for new Scouts include the blue uniform shirt (most kids opt for the short sleeve size medium), a blue webbed belt, and a neckerchief, slide and book for your appropriate den (for example, a 2nd grader would need the blue shirt, belt, and a Wolf neckerchief/slide/book).The shirt and belt will hold patches and loops your child earns each year, the following years you will only need to buy the neckerchief/slide/book for your child's new den. Many kids opt to purchase hats as well, but it's not necessary. Few kids in our Pack purchase the pants/shorts/long shirts.
