Afghan Evacuees Resettlement Team

We are seeking a team of volunteers to offer hospitality to the 350 Afghan families who are being resettled in Bloomington. If you would like to serve in this capacity or have questions about this opportunity, contact Brad Pontius ( ) or Norma Landgraff ( ). 

Rally For Life: January 23, 2022

Join us at the Monroe County Court House in Bloomington for the annual Rally For Life at 2:00pm. This year marks the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. This year's featured speaker is SOCC Elder Jeff Huston. Donations of diapers of all sizes will be accepted for both the Hannah Center and Women's Care Center. Downtown parking in Bloomington is free on Sundays. 

Wind River Family Camp - 2022

Join us this summer for an unforgettable family camp experience at the Wind River Reservation in the beautiful state of Wyoming. The Wind River Reservation is the 7th largest reservation in the United States, home to more than 8,000 Northern Arapaho and 3,500 Eastern Shoshone First Nations people. You'll experience life-changing moments with the team and your family, while serving together. We are currently putting together a team of 30-50 folks from Sherwood Oaks for our June 18-25, 2022 trip. Families are welcome with kids 5 years old and older. CIY Mix - The Middle Students

Incoming 6th grade students through 8th graders are invited to join our middle school ministry at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN for a life changing week of CIY Mix. The dates for this year's trip are July 11-14, 2022 but registration is open now. Discounts are available for incoming 6th grade students and for those who register before February 1. Exploring Sherwood Oaks: Growth Classes

We all want peace, joy and confidence in our relationship with God and others. As a church, we want to help you flourish! We invite you to Explore Sherwood Oaks through our Growth Classes, a series of short gatherings to help you discover your life in Christ, facilitate connections, and provide opportunities for service. We are better together, partnering with Christ and fellow believers to become people helping people grow generations of Christ-led influencers.

  • Discovery: Who are you? An examination of who we are in Christ. February 13, 20 and 27.
  • Story: What is your story? A look at how to share your Jesus story with others. March 27, April 3 and 10.

God of Creation: A Women's Study

It all begins with the Word. The opening chapters of Genesis teach us fundamental truths about God. We watch Him bring light after darkness, order after chaos, and rest after toil- all through the power of His Word. This study will dive into Genesis 1-11 by revisiting familiar stories and historical figures. As God reveals Himself through Scripture, we can begin to understand ourselves when look at the character, attributes, and promises of our Creator. Jesus and Women: A Women's Study

Imagine walking the dusty roads of Galilee with Jesus of Nazareth- braving jostling crowds just to touch the edge of His cloak and hear Him say, “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.” Those words, once meant to comfort a hurting woman’s soul thousands of years ago, were also meant for you. This study is a thoughtful look at several of Jesus' interactions with women in the Bible that will fuel your worship of the Living God. Ministry to Men: AS YOU THINK SO YOU ARE

As you think so you are- A conversation about You, God, and the Devil. Led by Allen Burris, Director of Spiritual Formation, this 7-week class, using lots of different sources, including and especially scripture, will help participants grow in their relationship with Jesus. The class will look at practical ways to understand and follow Paul’s challenging words in Romans 12: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The next Parents’ Night Out will take place on Friday, February 11, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm! Just feed your kiddos (birth – 5th grade) before you drop them off at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for an evening of crafts, games, and entertainment.

Women's Study

The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ longest recorded sermon and is overflowing with truth for us for every aspect of our lives and most of all, our hearts. Through this study you will be encouraged to cast your anxiety on Jesus, trust Him in difficult seasons, rejoice in all things, extend the grace that has been shown to you, and pursue Jesus and His kingdom with everything you are. This study is on Wednesdays from 6-7:30p, beginning on January 19th.

Fuel: Student Ministry

Being a servant and light for God can be draining, especially for students who are also battling the grind of school, extra-curriculars, and a culture growing further away from God.  FUEL is a time for students (6-12th grade) to recharge and “FUEL” up. The next event will be held on January 28 from 7-9:30p.

Heaven: A study for both men and women

Discover what the Bible says about the eternal home God prepared for His children. This study will bring peace and hope to those grieving the loss of a loved one or who are curious about what Heaven will be like. Join us at our Bedford Campus on Wednesdays, beginning January 5th, at 6pm. This study is open to men and women!

Men and Women's Breakfasts

Join the men on the first Saturday of each month at Denny's at 7am for breakfast. Join the ladies on the second Saturday of each month at Sherwood Oaks Bedford at 8am for breakfast.

One Service at 10:30a every 5th Sunday

For every month with 5 Sundays, the 5th Sunday of the month will change to a one-service morning at 10:30a. On January 30th, join us before the service (around 10a) for donuts, coffee, and fellowship.

Parents' Night Out

The next Parents’ Night Out will take place on Friday, February 11, from 5:30pm – 8pm! This event will include dinner, crafts, games, and entertainment.

Join us on February 4th from 6-8p at Sherwood Oaks Bedford for a friendly game of volleyball. Open to all skill levels.

Volunteer Opportunity with the Men's Warming Shelter

Volunteers are needed every Thursday evening to make and/or serve meals at the Men's Warming Shelter in Bedford. If you are willing and able to help with an upcoming Thursday or have questions, please contact Tena at  or 812-277-5816.

Women's Workout Night

Join us at Sherwood Oaks Bedford every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month* at 6:15pm for a women's workout night. Bring a water bottle and a friend, if you'd like! *We will not meet on January 25th. Our next workout night will be on February 8th.
