I can remember countless times growing up when I would do something I wasn’t supposed to, tease my little brother, refuse to pick up after myself or talk back to my parents and then I’d end up missing out on something fun because of a choice I had made. In the moment, it was frustrating to my tiny child brain. Now as a parent, I see what my parents were trying to do: shape me into the best person I could be.

When we make sinful choices or mistakes, we miss out on the fullness of what God has for us. But because of Jesus, we have a way home. No longer are we separated by the veil of sin.
Paul writes this in 2 Corinthians 3:16: “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. And we all with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.”
So though consequences and rebukes are tough, they are meant to shape us into the people God created us to be. Embrace the process, turn to Jesus and be set free in the Spirit.
