Do you ever feel like you don't measure up?

Mar 21, 2024

I often find myself looking around my house, stepping over toys, seeing a new mess that just has gone uncleaned due to the pace of life, and feeling like I’m not doing good enough. Or sometimes I compare myself to other parents and the things they do for their kids and I feel less than. As if there’s some image I’m trying to maintain that, if not kept up, will leave me in the margins of life, unworthy, maybe even unloved because I don’t measure up.

Does that feeling sound familiar?

Hi, I’m Quentin Bemis, a pastor at Sherwood Oaks.

Maybe for you that image struggle is with your home, your job, your kids, your social life, or something else that tugs at your heart gently saying “If you just have this or just do this, you’ll fit in!” We all crave the image of “having it all together”.

Well, let me just say, I don’t have it all together. And I’m learning everyday that that’s okay. Because every day, I’m learning more about how I am made not in the image of my stuff or my circumstances, but I am made in the image of God. And so are you.

If you find yourself feeling out of sorts, we invite you to join us for Easter at Sherwood Oaks, where you don’t have to have it all figured out. We welcome the messiness of life! Our services are at 8, 9:30, and 11am on Easter, and you can go to socc.org/Easter for more information.

Come just as you are, and leave as Jesus made you to live.
