Don't Miss God in the Silence

Whenever you are hurting, angry, lonely, or tired, what do you turn to? Oftentimes this reveals what we truly worship. Where do you turn for comfort, assurance, and escape in these moments? There too, is where we often put our assurance and faith.

Personally, I am guilty of the answer to these questions not always being what it should be. I don’t always turn to God in these seasons of pain and hurt. I hear nothing from God – silence – and I assume I must handle it on my own. I turn to people around me – which to be fair, God does place people in our lives to help us handle certain spiritual situations. However, I don’t believe that’s what He says to do first and only, nor the answer to every test that comes our way.

Sometimes, I turn to me and only me. I turn to myself and start to devise a plan of my own. I often turn into this person: “I am feeling alone in the world. I have no one around me that feels the same as I do. No one to turn to. Let me devise a plan to fix it. Let me put a Band-Aid on the situation and move on.”

When all along it is quite possible that God is calling me to be still and trust. To learn from the silent moments with Him. The silent moments can test our faith but can also strengthen our faith and trust in God. Sometimes in the silence, we can actually hear God more clearly. Sometimes in the rest, we can find our true comfort and peace in God, in His word, in prayer.

Don’t miss the silent moments with God. Don’t jump to conclusions that He isn’t faithful – He might just be working in your life more than you could ever realize on your own.
