The Man After God's Own Heart

“After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” Acts 13:22

David. The “man after God’s own heart.” And oh, the struggles he faced in his faith journey. He’s so relatable, isn’t he? He’s so human, just like you and me. No, we don’t all struggle with the same temptation or even the same sin. But we all have something that we do struggle with. Some kind of brokenness we have experienced caused by sin.

David tried to bury sin and shame, only to dig deeper and deeper into a pit of sin.

One of my favorite verses from Psalm 51 is this: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

David cries out to God. He cries out knowing that he has sinned and that Jesus is the only one to wash those sins clean. Time and time again, David repented and turned back to God. He was a man of great faith, and for this, God loved and blessed him. God granted him mercy and love, even through a flawed life, just as he does with you and me.

Let us never stop turning back to Jesus.
