Where do you need assurance about what you do not see, questions that you have, worries that keep you up at night?
Shawn asked this question near the end of his sermon on Sunday, and I have gone back to it several times since then. I find it easy to get caught up in the world around me that I can see. The terrible things that happen in this life. I worry about the future of this earth that I am raising a child to live on years after I am gone. I worry about the things I cannot control, the people that will hurt others, and the things that can destroy my loved ones. I worry that I am not enough or competent enough to speak boldly about Jesus Christ to those around me to know that I will see all of them in Heaven.
But Jesus Christ came to this earth to be my strength and assurance. To be your strength and assurance. To remind us why we get out of bed every day and keep pushing forward. To be our example of grace and kindness that this world so desperately needs more of.
He tells us in 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." No one can care for us the way that Jesus does. We have to turn from the ways of this world. We have to realize that there is a spiritual world all around us. And we must turn to Jesus in our times of worry and fear, for he is our strength.
