What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Hi, I’m Emily Bedwell from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with today’s minute message.
Risk is one of those words that makes me really nervous sometimes. I am not a natural risk taker, and I am not someone who does something without carefully evaluating pros and cons. While I like to think that part of my personality is a positive, sometimes I think I have missed out on great opportunities because I was simply afraid to take the next step.
One of my favorite quotes by Edward Teller says, “When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: Either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.”
The Bible puts it this way in the book of Joshua: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Faith means that sometimes we have to take the risk and step out into the unknown, trusting that our next step is already assured.
