Be with Me

When I think of Mother Teresa I only picture her as a small seemingly fragile old woman, as if she had only ever existed that way. But of course she was a small child once and then a young woman on a mission. When she first heard the call to serve others completely, Mother Teresa (then sweetly named Agnes) went to her mother and explained her plan to head out into the world and live among the poor. Agnes’ mother wasn’t excited about the idea at first, but after some careful thought and prayer she came back to Agnes and said these words: Put your hand in His hand and walk all alone with Him.

I think of that statement time and again. It doesn’t compel me to DO anything. It’s a statement that brings a person to be still and quiet and think.  I wonder what happened to Agnes’ mother between the time she felt devastation at her daughter leaving her to the time she let go and let God. Perhaps together we can pinpoint what we are holding onto and then let ourselves or someone we love or maybe and most likely both, let go and walk all alone with Him. What a season to do this! What a time to feel the freedom of not holding onto to what we really can’t control anyway. My prayer for you is that your time with your family and friends this season will be pure and fun and lively and free and warm and light… and you get the idea. Merry Christmas to you and to yours!
