Christmas Devos: Peace

Dec 10, 2019Janet Wingard

As we approach the second week of Advent we will pause and focus on the Prince of Peace who came to Earth to give us His peace!  Here are a few thoughts from my Advent study this week.

Perfect peace comes from knowing the Prince of Peace, being near to Him, and trusting him fully!

Generally when we describe peace, we think of tranquility, stillness or quiet. But in the beginning, peace wasn’t equated with stillness but with the nearness of God.

Peace with God doesn’t come from within ourselves. It’s not something we can obtain. It is something we are freely given. Peace is God’s gift to us---the Prince of Peace who came to give us peace! Romans 5:1; 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Peace in God is something that we must actively pursue. We have Peace in God when we experience the peace that comes through trusting Jesus. Peace, then, is the offspring of trust.

Perfect Peace exists in spite of external conflicts--- so peace is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of God.

My prayer this week is that we will experience God in us, working through us---For it is God in us that brings about peace.

How can we be peacemakers to our world today? Ponder this:

Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. Philippians 4:4-7
