Preparing for Christmas can be one of the most enjoyable times of the year if we stay focused on the heart of this special day. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Unfortunately, the holidays often bring a sense of frustration that can squeeze the joy right out of the season. Don’t let that happen to you. When you get distracted by December’s mundane details or insignificant concerns, that’s when you will discover your attitude sagging like a stocking filled with lumps of coal. For a joyous Christmas remember why we celebrate; God taught us to give by first giving to us the priceless gift of his son.

There are two islands that bear the name Christmas; one in the Pacific and the other in the Indian Ocean. It’s sort of an unusual name for an island, but it serves as a great reminder of this lasting truth. Christmas is an island of love in an ocean of indifference, an island of sacrifice in an ocean of selfishness, and an island of hope in an ocean of despair.   So as you prepare, keep your focus on the heart of Christmas; and you will find it an island of great joy!
