One exhausted holiday shopper quipped, “Many Americans no longer celebrate the arrival of the New Year – they celebrate the survival of the old one.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

This week we celebrate the ending of one year and the beginning of the next. Our energy is depleted, and the excitement of the season has slipped away. Most are just thankful they survived. It’s a shame that we too often lose the joy of life because we’ve lost our focus. Since we find ourselves at the dawn of the New Year let’s do a little refocusing. I’m not suggesting a New Year’s resolution – that’s seldom more than a promise to fail. I’m talking about a different look at daily living.

This year view each new day as a fresh start; an exciting challenge; a new opportunity. If you wake up in the morning, it’s already a great day. If you wake up feeling good, that’s an added bonus. So, put on a smile, share a kind word and lend a helping hand. Remember what the Psalmist wrote, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.” Have a Happy New Year!
