Let it Shine!

Dec 4, 2015

This morning as I drove my three year old grandson to preschool he made an observation as we left his neighborhood. “Nana, the lights aren’t on – the lights aren’t on!” Of course he was referring to the Christmas lights that adorned the houses that we passed. I explained that it was light out now so the Christmas lights are turned off but they would be back on tonight when it was dark. He accepted my explanation without question but my mind wandered on with the thought.

As Christians we are like those Christmas lights, shining brightest in the darkness. God has called us to bring his light to a dark and weary world. Matthew 5:14-16 states “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Join me this Christmas season and let the light of Jesus shine through us ever moment of every day. Smile at everyone you see, catch them by surprise with kindness, let this light that you carry within you shine like lightening blazing across the sky that points the way to Jesus. This dark world needs what we have so let’s not hide it under a bucket. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
