March 14 Minute Message

Mar 14, 2019Tom Ellsworth

You’ve undoubtedly heard this bit of wisdom, “If you aim at nothing, you’re bound to hit it.”  Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Back in 1962, four months before President Kennedy issued his challenge to go to the moon, nearly 1,800 bottles were released across the western half of the Gulf of Mexico.  Inside was a postcard instructing the finder to mail it immediately and receive a fifty-cent reward.  It was part of a government study on oceanic “drift.”  The advent of satellites and GPS have long-since made such studies obsolete, but nevertheless, one of those bottles washed up on the beaches of Corpus Christi just last month.  It had been drifting aimlessly for nearly six decades.

If we aren’t careful, we can be like that bottle.  Let’s be on our guard; don’t drift through life without a purpose.  Don’t carelessly meander from moment to moment – invest your God-given talents wisely and make a positive difference.

Don’t live your life like a washed up sixty-year-old bottle with a 50 cent message.  God has given us an eternal purpose – aim high and you’ll be amazed where you end up!
