Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

This week, which marks Dr. King’s birth, is a good time to reflect on what we are doing for those with genuine needs. And needs aren’t limited to one area of concern – they are multiple. Dr. King also said, “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” He was right – there is a joy and satisfaction that only comes from serving God through helping others in need. Often we wait until a natural disaster like a tornado or destructive fire awakens our compassion, but there’s no need to wait for such tragic moments before we respond.   Open your eyes to the people around you; the need is great. Start with the grieving widower or struggling single mother just down the street. Lend a helping hand; share an encouraging word; become a genuine friend. And remember, the time is always right to do the right thing!
