We usually associate the words egg and nest with birds, but when we hear the term “nest egg” we think of money. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.
Long ago, farmers who raised chickens would often place a fake wooden or porcelain egg into a hen’s nest. This bogus egg was designed to trick the hen into laying more eggs than normal. I don’t if it worked, but I like the concept. Eventually the idea of a nest egg represented a sum of money put away that would hopefully motivate an individual to save even more.
In this first month of 2015, I think it might be a good idea to examine the nest eggs of our lives. If it worked in the hen house maybe it will work in our own houses. And financial nest eggs are not the only ones to consider. Try working on a nest egg of kindness or a nest egg of encouragement. If you do or say something nice, just maybe it will help others to do the same. Do you have a nest egg of faith? That’s the most important one of all; all other nest eggs plan for a future here, but a nest egg of godly faith prepares us for eternity.
