Nothing bruises our integrity quicker than a broken promise. Be true to your word - if you promise to do something, then do it. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

If you were asked to list our greatest presidents in order of their accomplishments, where would you put our eleventh, James K. Polk? Would he even make your list? History seldom honors this man, and yet, as president, he kept his promises. In his campaign leading up to the election of 1844, he promoted his “four great measures.” (1) Acquire California, (2) Settle the Oregon boundary dispute, (3) Lower the tariff, and (4) Establish an independent treasury system. To these four promises he added a fifth – he would serve only one term as president.

After serving a single term, as he had promise, President Polk left office. He left with a sense of satisfaction for he had worked harder than most, keeping his other promises as well. More territory was added to the United States during his presidency than any other except Jefferson. How you keep your promises reflects on both you and God. Be true to your word – if you promise to do something, then do it!
