Legendary coach Vince Lombardi said, “Football is like life, it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Every September we gear up for another season of football.  America’s love of the pigskin sport is evident our investment of time, energy and money.  Coach Lombardi was right – in some ways football is a reflection of life.  During game play much can be learned about the value of team work, the importance of being focused, and the quest to persevere to the very last play.  But the valuable lessons are not limited to the twenty-two players on the field.  Look at the fans and you’ll be reminded of the power of encouragement.  That’s what makes the home field such an advantage.  At some point, we all need fans who will cheer us on when we struggle.  Most of us will never quarterback a team on the field of play, but all of us can cheer others as they move the ball down the field of life.  From the very beginning, God has inspired us to persevere to the very last play.  So, let’s encourage one another and we’ll all end up as winners.
